"And this is a regular custom throughout the people of Israel, whereby they assemble, group by group, to lovingly study the tikkun...which has been published throughout all communities of the people of Israel for several hundred years."
The HIDA, Rabbi Haim Yosef David Azoulay, Lev David, chapter 31
Towards Shavuot time, Morasha – Kol Israel Haverim schools held community "Tikkun Shavuot" events throughout the country for parents, children, teachers, school principals, and various municipal officials.
A city-wide Tikkun Shavuot event was held in the town of Bat Yam for the second consecutive year, in which the municipality and six local schools - religious and secular, primary and secondary - participated. Preparations for the Tikkun Shavuot were facilitated by the staff of Morasha – Kol Israel Haverim, which operates the year round in these schools in the field of Jewish education to social values. The event, branded as "The People of the Book", was held at the Bat Yam municipal library.
Vice-mayor Esther Peron, who holds the municipal education portfolio, opened the evening by expressing her hopes for productive learning, and pointed out the importance of community gatherings and joint study. Participants were then treated to a performance of piyutim associated with the Shavuot festival and the Giving of the Torah, which gave the entire evening an exceptional and special ambiance. The small group study sessions were facilitated by students from the participating schools, who had previously prepared for their new role with Morasha school mentors. Schoolchildren, parents, teachers and Bat Yam residents participated in the event.
