כששמעה איה ליבוביץ על פרויקט העצמה נשית ולימודית שמתקיימת בבית הספר החקלאי "מקווה ישראל", הבינה שזו הדרך שלה לתרום ושזה המקום שלה להשפיע ולעודד בנות להצלחה. מאז היא מלווה קבוצת בנות וחונכת אותן במתמטיקה - מקצוע "גברי" - כדי לאפשר להן עוד הזדמנויות בחיים. מאז ומתמיד רציתי להיות מעורבת בפרויקטים חברתיים. לפני שנתיים שמעתי על פרוייקט 'סודקות את תקרת הזכוכית'. פרויקט כזה, חשבתי לעצמי, יכול להגשים את הרצון שלי לתרום ולקדם חברתית את התחום הנשי: רציתי לעזור לנערות מוכשרות להיות בעלות ביטחון עצמי בתחום הריאלי, ולהראות להן שהן יכולות.
מה משותף לפרופסור גבריאלה גפני לשעבר השגרירה שלנו בוועדה לאנרגיה אטומית, חמוטל מרידור - יזמת הי טק צעירה, טקלה שששיטו – תלמידה מצטיינת מאולפנת נווה שרה הרצוג בפרדס כץ, לבייב מירי מתיכון רמות בת ים וספיר כהן מנתניה? כולן חלק מתכנית שהולכת ומתפתחת של עמותת "כל ישראל חברים" בשם "סודקות את תקרת הזכוכית" ופועלת למען קידום נערות לתעודת בגרות מדעית איכותית. אלישרא, אל-אופ, להב-תעשיה אווירית, מגל, מרכז המחקר הגרעיני בשורק, ועוד חברות נרתמו לעזרה, ומדעניות ונשות הי-טק מצליחות מעניקות לתלמידות השראה ומודל לחיקוי.
מבחני פיז"ה המחישו עד כמה גדולה השפעת הפערים בחברה על הישגי התלמידים. בחמש השנים האחרונות, אנחנו, ברשת "כל ישראל חברים" פועלים כדי לנסות ולתקן, ולו במעט, את המציאות החינוכית הזו. במסגרת זאת, פיתחנו את התכנית "ללמוד מחדש" שנועדה לעזור בדיוק לתלמידים אלה - באמצעות תמיכה לימודית ורגשית, באמצעות תמיכה בהורים ועל ידי חיזוק דרכי הוראה של המורים.
חברת השבבים הצטרפה לתוכנית "סודקות את תקרת הזכוכית"לקידום נערות ללמודי מדע וטכנולוגיה". השבוע ביקרו כעשרים נערות מבית ספר שלאון באינטל קרית גת, מכיתות ח׳ וט׳ במפגש ראשון מתוך סדרת מפגשים הצפויה במהלך השנה, נפגשו הנערות עם מהנדסות מאינטל אשר תיארו להם מהם תחומי האחריות שלה, מהו מסלול הלימודים הנדרש ועוד. כמו כן התקיים סיור מעשיר במרכז המבקרים ותצפית לחדר הנקי. הבנות שאלו שאלות רבות וגילו עניין רב במסלול העומד בפניהן.
The Kol Israel Haverim Conference on Education and Social Change focused on the topic "By facing the Other – you will discover yourself" (Barry Saharof). It examined progress and obstructions between self and Other, between the marginal and the mainstream, and between the periphery and the center.
Koby Oz performed at the conference and "sang the Otherness in Israeli society", as Guy Gardi, a Kol Israel Haverim director, put it. Koby spoke of his grandfather standing up and singing a piyut at his Bar Mitzvah, while guests chatted and ate, waiters served the first course, and Koby, the Bar Mitzvah boy, was busy throwing olives at his friends. "My grandfather stood there alone and sang, and probably thought to himself: "I am the last one".
At the age of 40 Koby completed the cycle, celebrated a late Bar Mitzvah and read the Haftara to the same tune that his grandfather had recorded almost 30 years prior. Today, Koby opens every performance with the piyut his grandfather sang alone at the Bar Mitzvah.
The conference was held last Thursday, on the first night of Chanukah, at the International Conference Centre in Ashkelon. Educators from different schools in which Kol Israel Haverim is involved attended, as did educational program facilitators and employees - religious, Masorati and secular people from all over Israel, sharing a clear message of togetherness despite the differences and otherness between each one of them.
The day opened with a Beit Midrash study session of Jewish texts dealing with the relationships between self and Other. Later during the day, workshops facilitated by individuals active in the educational and social fields took place, in which we held in-depth discussions on Otherness and facing its challenges.
The conference was an expression of the intense activity and expansion of Kol Israel Haverim as an educational superpower, who faces the Other – and the future.
כנס כל ישראל חברים לחינוך וחברה בנושא "עם הפנים אל האחר – תגלה את עצמך" (ברי סחרוף), התמקד בתנועה ובחסמים שבין "האחר" לביני, בין "השוליים" למיינסטרים ובין הפריפריה למרכז.
בכנס הופיע קובי אוז, "שר האחרוּת בחברה הישראלית", כפי שהגדיר אותו גיא גרדי, מנהל ב"כל ישראל חברים". קובי סיפר על סבו, עומד ושר פיוט בבר המצווה שלו. כול האורחים דיברו ואכלו, המלצרים חילקו את המנה הראשונה, וחתן בר המצווה קובי היה עסוק בלזרוק זיתים על חבריו. "סבא שלי עמד שם, שר לבד ובטח חשב: אני האחרון."
בגיל ארבעים סגר קובי מעגל, חגג לעצמו בר מצוה מאוחרת וקרא את ההפטרה שלו באותו הניגון שהקליט עבורו סבו כמעט שלושים שנה קודם. היום פותח קובי את כל הופעותיו בפיוט ששר סבו לבד בבר המצווה.
הכנס התקיים ביום חמישי האחרון, נר ראשון של חנוכה, במרכז הכנסים הבינלאומי באשקלון. בכנס השתתפו אנשי חינוך ממגוון בתי הספר בהם פועלת "כל ישראל חברים", מנחים בתכניות חינוכיות ועובדים, דתיים, מסורתיים וחילוניים מכל רחבי הארץ, שהגיעו עם אמירה ברורה של ביחד, למרות ההבדלים והאחרות של כל אחד מהם.
היום נפתח בלימוד בית מדרשי של טקסטים יהודיים העוסקים במערכות יחסים בין האחר לאני. בהמשך היום נערכו סדנאות שהועברו על ידי דמויות פעילות בשדה החינוכי והחברתי, ובהן התקיימו דיונים מעמיקים על אחרוּת וההתמודדות עימה.
הכנס מבטא את תנופת העשייה וההתרחבות של "כל ישראל חברים" כמעצמה חינוכית, שפניה אל האחר – ואל העתיד.
גאווה מזרחית, ישראל 2013. הם גדלו בפתח תקווה ובירושלים, בסביון ובגוש עציון. רבים מהם למדו במיטב האולפנות, הישיבות והמדרשות של הציונות הדתית, מוסדות שזוכים לא פעם לכינוי "אליטה". במשך רוב שנות נעוריהם הם העדיפו להתעלם מהזהות המזרחית שלהם; אחדים מהם אפילו התכחשו אליה במופגן. התביישו בה. אז קרה משהו. ברגע אחד של הארה או בסופו של תהליך — הם החליטו לחזור הביתה; לתפילה, למוזיקה ולמסורת ההלכתית שממנה הגיעו. לא, לא מדובר בתנועת מחאה זועמת בסגנון הפנתרים השחורים, ובשיחות איתם כמעט לא תשמעו מילים כמו קיפוח או אפליה.
We are celebrating: A chapter has been added to the growing corpus of written teachings of Memizrach Shemesh. The Last in Deed yet First Conceived ["סוף מעשה במחשבה תחילה"] workbook, with a year's lesson plan for the Ba'Machshava – Social Beit Midrash for Community Service program, has left the printing shop to join the other publications in our Beit Midrash library.
The Ba'Machshava Beit Midrash is geared to young people who choose to volunteer for a year's civil service - between the completion of high school and entry to military service in the IDF - in order to contribute to the community and to the state. The Beit Midrash seeks to generate a meaningful personal and group process through study that concerns the identity of participants and the many challenges they face during their year of service and through the development of a shared group language. Based on the thoughts and emotions that are revealed during the study encounters, we try to provide additional depth to the Civil Service Cadets term of service and to engage them in change that begins from within and has long-term effects.
Approximately a third of Israel's cadets participate in our program, and the positive feedback we receive shows that the program provides them with a meaningful opportunity. "Studying with the group gave me strength," one of the participants told us, "and encouraged me to think on how I can affect Israeli society, how I can create change that impacts people." This is the type of reaction we often receive from participants at the end of the year.
The workbook presents the personal and group processes through which the cadets go and advances from discussions of each individual's unique identity to the study of heritage and of its place in our lives, and from the geography of inequality to its role in the education system, keeping the development of a meaningful, deep and effective year of service for the volunteers and their surroundings uppermost.
Our congratulations to Tamar Zaken, Director of the Civil Service Cadet program, who leads the way for the dozens of cadet groups that participate in the program; to Tamar Elmaliach, author and editor, and to Haya Neeman, Head of the Department for Study Materials Development at Kol Israel Haverim – Memizrach Shemesh, who devotedly toiled on the workbook's production. May Last in Deed yet First Conceived grace us in adding to the effectiveness of our educational work and in spreading the word of Memizrach Shemesh to us all.
The Power of Volunteers
Volunteers are integral partners in contributing to the impact of all Kol Israel Haverim's educational programs. A new partnership has recently been formed, led by Hila Levy, between the Tikkun Olam organization that runs programs for youth volunteers in Israel and Kol Israel Haverim. Five Tikkun Olam volunteers chose to volunteer in Mikve Israel.
Samantha, one of the volunteers, decided to contribute her skills to Mikve's religious school, while Lea chose to tutor pupils in English and divide her time between Shaar's Cracking the Glass Ceiling program for girls during the mornings and the general school during her afternoons. Ilan, Lindsay and Sasha joined them, committing all their time to supporting students in after-school programs. Ilan, who mentioned that his parents had been raised in Holon, is aware of the difficulties many children face in qualifying for matriculation certificates because of their poor English. "This is a nice place", he says about the Mikve Israel day center. "Kids can come here and discover their potential, and we can open the way for them".
Rinat Cohen, in charge of the volunteer program at Shaar – Kol Israel Haverim, explains that the objective is now to spread the word. "We need volunteers to take on various responsibilities, and mainly to be role models for the children, to be big brothers and sisters – something they need for a better future. We hope that this is the start of a long-term collaboration, through which we will be able to help more children during the mornings as well as the afternoons".
